Arts in Rockland First Friday Art Walk & Courtyard Entertainment

July 7, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Arts in Rockland (AIR) First Friday art walk is a wonderful opportunity to tour the art galleries that make Rockland the art hub of Maine.  Visit the Gautschi Center during the Friday night art walk for special offerings and a light reception.

Throughout the evening in the Elm Street Galleries’ courtyard, Maho Hisakawa and Nathan Hillman, of Windfern Ensemble, will be performing classical music on the flute and viola.

The musical performances offered in the courtyard during the First Friday Art walks, are hosted by The Craft Gallery, The Caldbeck Gallery and the Gautschi Center.

About our performers:

Maho Hisakawa began her flute studies at age 10 in Japan and studied through high school. In 2012, after a 15 year break, she decided to bring music back into her life and joined Odeon Adult Orchestra at Bay Chamber Music School. She has been studying with Nicole Rabata since 2015 and founded Windfern in 2016. She performs regularly at various concerts, churches, weddings, and memorial services as a soloist, with Windfern, and with other local musicians.

Nathan Hillman started playing violin in 1998 with Janet Ciano, then switched to viola in 2006. He has studied under Gilda Joffe, Marc Johnson, Robert Dan, Kirsten Monke, and Malcolm Brooks. He was a member of the Calliope String Quartet, Odeon Chamber Ensemble, and currently plays for Windfern. Nathan grew to love chamber music while attending Kneisel Hall and Next Generation chamber music camps. He began composing when he was seven, and continues to write and arrange music, and is a three time winner of the Bagaduce Composer Competition in Blue Hill. He was principal violist of Union College Orchestra and member of the Taiko ensemble. In his spare time, he hikes and snowshoes year-round to keep in touch with nature.
